This is my set of plates. They are a soft slab as I was unable to create them on the wheel. The sides of them are designed like flower petals. They were glazed in matte turquoise and stained with red and purple in a flower petal shape to give a slight 3d appearance. The Art element is color, which makes them look like flowers. The Design element is form, which was created my the edges and soft slab form used to create these plates. The mood is imaginative.

This is my plantar project, super late once again because of my foot fiasco, but thats ok. It started with a large pinch pot base, then going further up it has four pinkie sized coils of a coil pot. It is 3 1/2 inches tall. It also has small coiled handles as well that are the size of a silver dollar. The base was made over a period of 3 days, and is a simple soft slab plate that is 6 inches across. This project was intending made simple in design and glaze so it would not take away from the beautiful plants it will eventually contain. It was glazed in Iron Tan and Sand, which melded together for a very pleasing appearance. The design element of this project is shape, it' lovely form is the center of attraction. The art element is line, the coils create three dimensional lines on the project.
This is my cup project, i made a soft slab cup to replace the wheel cup that I had to do for intermediate ceramics. This cup was made for my older sister who loves to drink tea, so I made the elephant on the front of it to be able to hold a tea bag when it is used. This project was really a review of skills that I learned during freshman art. The design element of this project is shape, the cup's shape as well as the central focus of the elephant head. The art element is texture, the inside and the outside of the cup were made to be intentionally imperfect and textured as to embrace the natural and organic form of the cup.
This is my vase, my favorite project so far, things are really starting to come together for me in this class!
The glaze was made by combining two different colors of turquoise, which gave it a running sort of appearance which I loved. The glaze really enhances the form of this vase and although it is small, the shape is uniform through out and the foot ring was the best one yet! A new skill I learned in this project was how to foot, although there isn't a photo of it because I don't have access to a camera. The art element used is uniformity created through the color and shape. The balance created by this project creates a sense of calm and peace. I <3 ceramics! This is my second bowl on the wheel and it is a little off center as you can see in the photo. Its still a work in progress on th wheel so i hope to get better.
The lip I made on it was a little bit weird, so I altered it and made it more organic by bending the clay to make the design. Later as I was glazing, I took a pin tool and put small grooves partway around the bowl to allow glaze to run into them, giving the appearance of the bowl crying. The glazing really turned out and enhances the project. The new skill I learned in this project is dripping, so I took a syringe and dripped glaze in the grooves I created. The mood of this project is sort of a fall feeling, based on the color and design. This is my first bowl on the wheel, and I know this project is super late, and I'm sorry. I was super embarrassed of it so I didn't want to turn it in, but i have now realized that art is a journey and an individual's interpretation, not anyone's expectations.
This bowl uses color and form to create an image on the side of the bowl, the glazes and dyes I used create this, giving it two dimensional images on a three dimensional project. The new skill i learned in this project, was staining and although it did not quite turn out as I planned, it was a learning experience. The mood of this project is hopeful and bright and focused on the design. |
